Phil and I had been talking about getting an RV and hitting the road for years. This was our plan for when we retired. Both of us have a traveling bug in us. When our youngest daughter was a senior in high school and making her plans to move out to go to school and work I started getting serious about our decision. Even though we couldn't retire yet we researched ways to make our dream come true early. I found lots of useful information and became a member of Workampers.com. (see link on this blog) We started looking at all the different jobs out there and thought we can do this. We bought a used 35 ft. Alfa fifth wheel and a used Dodge dually truck to pull it. This was 2 years ago and we would not change a thing. It took us a little bit of time before we really utilized Workampers but once we did we had no trouble getting jobs. Our first job was at Diamond Lake Oregon, then we went to Walnut Creek, California where we managed a pumpkin patch then a tree lot. We had just been relaxing in Tombstone, Arizona before coming back to Portland so I could take care of my mom's house and cats while she went on a cruise. Now we are in Crescent, Oregon waiting for all the snow to melt at the lake so we can get back to work. We will then go back to Arizona and wait until out tree lot job in San Antonio starts. We really enjoy our travels. We work enough to pay for our trips and vacations and have plenty of time to relax so it feels like we are partially retired.
